The Christian Education Committee [CEC]

The Assembly of Québec Catholic Bishops [AQCB] has struck committees to address many issues. As its name indicates, the mandate of the CEC is to support the bishops in their reflections on the faith education of youth and adults, while taking into account the social and religious context of Québec.

Regroupement des responsables diocésains de la formation à la vie chrétienne (RFVC)

The CEC works closely with the RFVC, a committee of diocesan representatives who are responsible for the training and development of a Christian life.

The Role of the Christian Education Committee:

  1. To guarantee reflection by the Assembly of Québec Catholic Bishops concerning the formation (training) and development of a Christian life for youth and adults.
  2. To propose to AQBC orientations for Christian education that will integrate the Quebec context and perspective.
  3. To support the dioceses as they implement these orientations, particularly in the field of catechesis.
  4. To ensure that the programs for the formation of a Christian life will reach out to all ages and will reflect the essential moments in the process of evangelization: missionary activities, catechetical rites of initiation, and pastoral action.
  5. To promote dialogue among the members of the Regroupement des responsables diocésains de la formation à la vie chrétienne.
  6. To ensure, in the policies adopted by the Ministry of Education, reflection on the comprehensive formation of students, particularly on their religious education and on the place of religion in schools.
  7. To ensure that these measures are protected in government policies. 

The Role of the Regroupement des responsables diocésains de la formation à la vie chrétienne

Mandate: As a partner of the CEC,

  • collaborate on the reflection and work of the Christian Education Committee;
  • ensure communication and dialogue among the various diocesan services of formation (training) for a Christian life.

Objectives:

  1. To foster inquiry, dialogue and sharing of information and experiences, training and resources, on all aspects concerning the formation for a Christian life and to implement the orientations of the AQCB.
  2. To respond to consultation requests from the Christian Education Committee [CEC].
  3. To explore specific and /or timely aspects concerning the formation for a Christian life and strike ad hoc or sub committees as needed.
  4. In partnership with the CEC, to organize, as needed, provincial training sessions on the formation for a Christian life.
  5. To establish and maintain communications among its members.
