What is the family’s role in a child’s faith education?
The family provides an essential and supportive role for the awakening and spiritual growth of its members. Parents encourage and invite their children to take the first steps in their faith journey and provide guidance through their commitment to human and religious values. However parents are not alone in helping their children grow in their baptismal faith.
Parents are assisted by their extended family. Grandparents and godparents also have a responsibility to accompany children in this journey. They teach by example; they express their spiritual values through their actions and words.
With the support and witnessing of the entire Christian community, the child and other family members continue on their faith journey that will lead to true commitment.
