How do I register my child for catechism?
Most parish communities offer an introduction and initiation to the faith for elementary school children. Certain parishes have activities for younger children. Others also provide a program for parents to accompany their children along this journey.
Keeping in mind the diversity of what is available from one parish community to another, we recommend that you contact those responsible for the catechetical program in your parish. Most activities begin in the autumn but information is available throughout the year.
When will my child receive the sacraments?
Preparation is important before receiving the sacraments which are significant events in a Christian life. It is an integral part of the catechetical program. Children will be invited to celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation 1 during the program. The celebration of the Sacraments does not depend on age or grade level, but on the child’s readiness to receive the sacraments.
Must my child be baptized?
It is never too late to begin a believer’s faith journey and it is possible to celebrate Baptism at any age. The parish catechetical leaders will take into account each child’s journey.
1. There may be variations in the order that the sacraments are received. Also in some milieus, children are confirmed at the beginning of adolescence.
